I generally use January as a month to sit back and review what I’ve done the previous year and do some thinking about the new year. So, I’ve done just that. In terms of my Dream Board (big goals for the year), I achieved 7 out of 10 of them for 2018. Not too shabby hey?
One of the big ones was to take control of all of my finances. My ever-suffering financial advisor and accountant (two different people) have a slightly less panicked look in their eyes when they talk to me now. What is interesting about getting my finances under control is that I now have more headspace to do other things. It’s just crazy how much we think about sometimes and how hard our brains are working all the time. Sometimes we just reach capacity and have no room for anything else.
One of the big goals I didn’t achieve last year was really working out my business services plan. There’s just so much I can do in the digital excellence space and so many clients I can help, and because I love doing it all, I just got pulled in every direction last year.
Anyway, enough reflection, what’s in store for this year you ask?
Some people I know come up with one word that will guide them for a year. I loved Dr Jason Fox’s word last year: Pirate. I thought I’d do the same this year.
One of my favourite thought leaders – Seth Godin – has said,
‘If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try’.
Fear, like many things in our lives, is linked to survival. We are afraid of anything that might affect our survival. I see a lot of fear when working with digital solutions and changing how people work.
So, bravery for me and for my clients, is a key element of success. And it’s the cornerstone of everything I’m going to do this year.
When 1 becomes 2
My business is Kate Fuelling Consulting. I do keynote speaking; I do digital excellence consulting. I do it all. The two are intertwined and rely on me to deliver 90% of it. But technical advances aren’t so far advanced that we can clone me yet (not sure my husband would want that anyway), so I can’t really expand and deliver all the ideas I have now brewing in my head.
So, my biggest, bravest action this year is to split the two so that Kate Fuelling Consulting becomes Keynote speaking / thought leadership for all things Digital Leadership (all me), and Digital by Design becomes a digital excellence consulting firm (lead by me).
Keep an eye out for our new service offering, for a new website and new faces. It won’t be easy, it will be very scary, but I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
2019 is the year to be brave here at Kate Fuelling Consulting and Digital by Design.
What is 2019 going to be for you?
